Thanksgiving Beckons

It’s a short week at work, and frankly, I’ve checked out at this point already.  🙂  This 4-day weekend should be fun.  On deck today?  The Muppets!!!! Can not wait to see it, and what was especially cool was when we bought tickets through Flixster, in the electronic receipt, there was a code to download two songs from the movie via iTunes:  “The Muppet Show Theme” and “Life’s a Happy Song Finale”, both of which are awesome.  Larry & I are soooo excited to see this movie.  Afterwards, it’s homemade pizza time.

Tomorrow we’re off to Mom and Harv’s for an, I’m sure, wonderful feast.  Nothing exciting planned beyond that for tomorrow, I think.

Friday though, it’s that time that comes along once every two years or so when Hobie decides to rebuild his PC.  Stand by for that post, as I do love to share any insights on this time-honored tradition amongst PC enthusiasts.  I’m donating my existing pieces to Larry as he wants to build a Hackintosh (a Macintosh built on PC guts).  I just can’t wait to have a super-charged PC again that runs things like Skyrim and Saints Row the Third without even blinking.

Saturday and Sunday?  Who knows.  The weather is supposed to be great, so probably we’ll take advantage of the fact that we live in the awesome Santa Monica area.  I’ve been wanting to go hiking around the Santa Monica mountains actually…and I’ve also been jonesing to make the hike to the Hollywood Sign….

Here are some pics from this past weekend when Larry strolled around the Main St area in Santa Monica as well as the adjacent beach.  Ah, I love saying adjacent beach.

Thanksgiving Recap (MM)

Having chosen to pay for airfare back home for Christmas, that meant I was staying out here in NYC for Thanksgiving.  Larry’s family also wasn’t doing a big-ol’ thing this year either, which was where I spent last year’s Thanksgiving.  So when I got the invite a few months back to spend the holiday with KD (aka Keladora) and Eric at his family’s house in Connecticut, I said “why not?”

So on Wednesday afternoon, after getting out of work a little early thanks to dealing with a whole bunch of system issues earlier that week (in order to avoid having to deal with them over the weekend), Larry & I schlepped to Grand Central Station to take a Metro North train into Connecticut.  Along with seemingly the rest of Manhattan.  We managed to get tickets for the 3:41 train right around 3:36, so we ran to the train and found a spot to stand.  Yep, stand.  It was crowded.  Very crowded.  We only ended up having to stand for about 30 minutes though, and eventually found a place to sit for the rest of the 1 hour 40 minute train ride to New Haven, CT.  I was keeping all this in mind too as I know that there is a Mohegan Sun ride/rail trip package that involves this same train trip.

Anyway, when we got there KD & Eric were waiting for us!  It is so great to see them both.  One of those friendships where it is easy to fall right back into the rhythm we had before.  Larry was also able to fall into the rhythm and that was great as before, they had really only met him for an evening two summers ago which was a few months after I had met Larry.  Well, we got back to the house and proceeded to catch up and get rightfully drunk.  Ah, fun.

The next day, surprisingly, I wasn’t hungover.  What I did get though was a ridiculous allergy attack based on the fact that Eric’s sister had brought their cats.  D’oh.  I was okay actually the first night, but damn, I got hit hard on Thanksgiving. In fact, I took some Benadryl along with some alcohol (not a good move, in retrospect), and passed the hell out for the entire dinner upstairs.  Yes, I missed Thanksgiving dinner.  But upon finally getting up that night, I groggily ate some leftovers and eventually woke up, and thankfully without any more allergic reactions.  The rest of the night was spent playing Balderdash, which was just hilarious.

Then the next day, we sort of lazed around the house watching movies until KD & Eric drove us into New Haven to the train station for our relatively uneventful train ride back into Manhattan.  It was an empty train at the start, but by the time we got to NYC, the train was packed.  Seems like everyone was coming back before the weekend.

So finally this weekend, Larry & I enjoyed the remaining days of the Thanksgiving vacation.  We did an NYC walk up on the upper upper west side where Grant’s Tomb is as well as Columbia University.  It’s a very beautiful part of Manhattan and it was a beautiful, crisp fall day to match it.

Good times in all for a weekend that unfortunately ended far too quickly.  I have posted my pictures from Thanksgiving and from Larry & my walk yesterday too in the PICS section.  Please enjoy yourself.

Movin’ on up (movin on up!) to the Upper West Side!

Where the hell have I been?  Gosh, it’s been awhile, hasn’t it?  Sorry ’bout that, y’all!

What’s the crazy exciting news going on right now, you ask?  I am moving to NEW YORK CITY!  I know, I know, didn’t I do that  over a year ago?  Kinda.  But I was still across the river in Jersey.  Close, but definitely no cigar.  But I knew back in November that I was ready to finally live on my own and most importantly, move into the city.  I’ve been checking listings a lot over the past 30 days.  Mostly through craigslist because hey, it’s free.  Of course, you get what you pay for.  But one listing I clicked through on had a link to the actual site.  The ad in craigslist was actually quite informative so I was impressed enough to follow the link to the real site.  Good move on my part.  The site belonged to this guy who not only puts great pictures of the properties up, he also puts up detailed floorplans (a huge rarity in the online world) and great descriptions.  Here’s the link to it while it’s up of the place I fell in love with online and once I saw it in person, I had to have it:

http://www.ccrny.com/?detail&rrecno=54495

Go ahead, be jealous.  Sure, it’s ‘only’ a studio.  But DAMN.  It’s a huge giant space with 12′ ceilings.  Those windows are awesome.  It’s in the Upper West Side on a fantastic street (72nd).  It’s a block and a half away from the Dakota (where John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived) and Central Park.  My commute to work, via two possible subway routes, is about 15 minutes.  It’s basically ridiculous.  The rent will probably appall anyone who doesn’t live in NYC and the immediate area around it.  I know it’s appalling to me when I really think about it.  But for the area and what I’m getting, it’s incredible.  Also, there’s a freakin’ attic over the kitchen for storage.  Plus, the closet is incredible in that over the two sides where the clothes hang, shelves go up like another 10-12 feet.  You think i’m exaggerating.  I am so not.  I will need a damn Lex Luthor library ladder to get up to the top shelf if I need to.

So that has been an exciting thing to do.  My lease will start Jan 1 but I will also have both places at the same time during January.  Hopefully that will make moving not so stressful.

Other than that – let’s see… it’s been a while but it’s mostly been busy at work or hanging out with Larry.  Thanksgiving I spent with him and his family in Fort Lee, which was a lot of fun.  I am headed home to LA for Christmas though, so look out California!  You’re lucky Prop 8 passed or I may have just got myself gay-married for kicks!

Of course plenty of fun things have happened in the meantime, but I really can’t detail them all.  I’ve been writing like crazy still for RealityNewsOnline but Amazing Race just ended!!! Booo….  They are asking me back to recap the new NBC show “Momma’s Boys.”  I would never watch something like this but if they want me back to write for them, who am I to complain?

I haven’t linked to my stories lately, so let me see if I can find the recent ones and link them here:

Peace out!

Total Lazy Day

And I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday-month gift from Father Time!

What, you didn’t know that I celebrate and accept gifts for my birthday during the entire month of November (and the first few days of December)? Now you do. I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving was great! As for me, CivilianJenny invited me down to the Philadelphia area to spend Thanksgiving with her and her family. It was nice to have a place to go this first year really far away from friends and family, and her family was great and made me feel right at home. Thanks again, Jenny!

But today, I slept in late, played video games and watched TV like all day, and finally showered around 5pm. It was AWESOME. I haven’t been that non-productive in a long time. I’ve been replaying Half-Life 2 (finished that today), HL2 Episode One (started & finished that today), and now HL2 Episode Two, which is actually pretty challenging!

I’ve got some more pics to share with you today. On Wednesday, went and took some pictures of the Rockefeller tree from my balcony because the scaffolding came down that day, so the tree is completely visible now. All the lights are on the tree too, but they’re not actually ‘on’ just yet. That’s next week some time. Then on my way home, I gave myself the ‘treat’ of walking up and down 5th Avenue with every effin’ tourist and their mother (literally) who was in town for the weekend and the parade and everything. Oy vay. Ridiculous. But I did stop by the Saks Fifth Avenue store to see their Christmas windows, which were pretty cool. Apparently I also need to stop by Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s to see their windows ans well. I’ll make sure to provide a detailed ranking report of whose windows were the best!
