Thanksgiving Recap (MM)

Having chosen to pay for airfare back home for Christmas, that meant I was staying out here in NYC for Thanksgiving.  Larry’s family also wasn’t doing a big-ol’ thing this year either, which was where I spent last year’s Thanksgiving.  So when I got the invite a few months back to spend the holiday with KD (aka Keladora) and Eric at his family’s house in Connecticut, I said “why not?”

So on Wednesday afternoon, after getting out of work a little early thanks to dealing with a whole bunch of system issues earlier that week (in order to avoid having to deal with them over the weekend), Larry & I schlepped to Grand Central Station to take a Metro North train into Connecticut.  Along with seemingly the rest of Manhattan.  We managed to get tickets for the 3:41 train right around 3:36, so we ran to the train and found a spot to stand.  Yep, stand.  It was crowded.  Very crowded.  We only ended up having to stand for about 30 minutes though, and eventually found a place to sit for the rest of the 1 hour 40 minute train ride to New Haven, CT.  I was keeping all this in mind too as I know that there is a Mohegan Sun ride/rail trip package that involves this same train trip.

Anyway, when we got there KD & Eric were waiting for us!  It is so great to see them both.  One of those friendships where it is easy to fall right back into the rhythm we had before.  Larry was also able to fall into the rhythm and that was great as before, they had really only met him for an evening two summers ago which was a few months after I had met Larry.  Well, we got back to the house and proceeded to catch up and get rightfully drunk.  Ah, fun.

Thanksgiving in CT, Day 1 – Nov 25, 2009

The next day, surprisingly, I wasn’t hungover.  What I did get though was a ridiculous allergy attack based on the fact that Eric’s sister had brought their cats.  D’oh.  I was okay actually the first night, but damn, I got hit hard on Thanksgiving. In fact, I took some Benadryl along with some alcohol (not a good move, in retrospect), and passed the hell out for the entire dinner upstairs.  Yes, I missed Thanksgiving dinner.  But upon finally getting up that night, I groggily ate some leftovers and eventually woke up, and thankfully without any more allergic reactions.  The rest of the night was spent playing Balderdash, which was just hilarious.

Thanksgiving in CT, Day 2 – Nov 26, 2009

Then the next day, we sort of lazed around the house watching movies until KD & Eric drove us into New Haven to the train station for our relatively uneventful train ride back into Manhattan.  It was an empty train at the start, but by the time we got to NYC, the train was packed.  Seems like everyone was coming back before the weekend.

Thanksgiving in CT, Day 3 – Nov 27, 2009

So finally this weekend, Larry & I enjoyed the remaining days of the Thanksgiving vacation.  We did an NYC walk up on the upper upper west side where Grant’s Tomb is as well as Columbia University.  It’s a very beautiful part of Manhattan and it was a beautiful, crisp fall day to match it.
