Cue From Jenny

This YouTube video made me laugh out loud (that would be LOL for you newbies to the ‘Internet’). And if you want to really laugh, go check out Jenny’s site where she has put some HEEElarious videos up, including the first time she got drunk. She still acts like that, by the way. Seriously. Anyways, the cue from Jenny is because she’s been posting lots of YouTube videos up, not because of the content of the video below!

This video is to help keep the heterosexual population from accidentally going gay. You can all thank me later for this valuable insight.

“Sweetie, pass the chips…” – again laughed out pretty loud at that one!

So my goal today was to have gone to the doctor this afternoon after working a half-day or so at the Englewood Cliffs/CNBC location. Well, I did the whole work thing for the first part of the day, and then I drove to my doctor using my trusty GPS. Well, my ‘little bit racist’ (see Avenue Q to get my reference) side came out when I realized that my doctor was smack dab in the hood of West New York, which is up on the palisades part of the city. You see, I live down by the river, and usually ‘down by the river’ implies the shady part of town. But alas, West New York likes to turn things on its ear, as you may have already surmised. First, the name of the city alone makes you think, “oh, it’s in New York…” WRONG. “Ooooh, the Palisades, that sounds pretty…” WRONG. “ohhhhh, down by the river???” WRONG. All sorts of backwardsness, let me tell you. So anyways, once you go up top to the Palisades of West New York, which admittedly has an awesomer view of Manhattan than ‘down by the river’, you enter the poorer side of town. And as I realized I was driving around the heart of it and I’d have to park somewhere in the ghetto (cue Cartman singing), I was like, “Peace Out, Yo” and I am so not stopping here. So back to Health Coach I go and get some recommendations, maybe in the WASPy area of Edgewater or just go somewhere in Manhattan.

And that’s that.

Total Lazy Day

And I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday-month gift from Father Time!

What, you didn’t know that I celebrate and accept gifts for my birthday during the entire month of November (and the first few days of December)? Now you do. I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving was great! As for me, CivilianJenny invited me down to the Philadelphia area to spend Thanksgiving with her and her family. It was nice to have a place to go this first year really far away from friends and family, and her family was great and made me feel right at home. Thanks again, Jenny!

But today, I slept in late, played video games and watched TV like all day, and finally showered around 5pm. It was AWESOME. I haven’t been that non-productive in a long time. I’ve been replaying Half-Life 2 (finished that today), HL2 Episode One (started & finished that today), and now HL2 Episode Two, which is actually pretty challenging!

I’ve got some more pics to share with you today. On Wednesday, went and took some pictures of the Rockefeller tree from my balcony because the scaffolding came down that day, so the tree is completely visible now. All the lights are on the tree too, but they’re not actually ‘on’ just yet. That’s next week some time. Then on my way home, I gave myself the ‘treat’ of walking up and down 5th Avenue with every effin’ tourist and their mother (literally) who was in town for the weekend and the parade and everything. Oy vay. Ridiculous. But I did stop by the Saks Fifth Avenue store to see their Christmas windows, which were pretty cool. Apparently I also need to stop by Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s to see their windows ans well. I’ll make sure to provide a detailed ranking report of whose windows were the best!

I Have Arrived

The weeks of do-nothing and laziness are over. I start work at NBC tomorrow….

So after Cleveland, I trudged on, first to Philadelphia (Pennsylvania is a long state, let me tell you), and then after that to Atlantic City, where I really am glad I got a chance to go gamble and play some craps before starting my new job. I have no idea when I’d get a chance to gamble again (which sounds totally dramatic but it’s not), so it was nice to have a quick stop to do so. But before I get into the Philadelphia and Atlantic City stories, I think I’ll work backwards this time and first put up the pictures of my new digs and the sunset views of Manhattan as experienced from my neighborhood on my first day here. Still can’t believe I’m starting tomorrow. Anyways, my drive out here was very safe and I avoided speeding tickets the entire way. Yay me. It probably helped I was never going more than 10mph over the speed limit the entire time, even in those states with 65mph speed limits (you know who you are, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey!!!).

Here are the pics from my new hood. Enjoy.  (2014 Note:  I’ve also collected all these photos into my Travelogue page for this whole journey)

But before I was in Manhattan, I got to have two very cool days! At the beginning and for most of those two days, I was with the illustrious Jenny Robinson in Philadelphia! Cue the fanfare music! It was a lot of fun and it began pretty much as soon as I arrived on Friday night (also coinciding with me having to drive in Philly rush hour traffic on a Friday afternoon – not what I’d call fun). We first got some dinner at an authentic and very non-touristy Philly ‘restaurant’ called Steve’s where I got myself some pretty damn good Philly Cheese Steak. But really, what made it awesome were the true Philly natives who were also there. Seriously – the accents, the body hair, the high-tops, the hairstyles, the clothes…. it was flippin’ awesome. Remember that Jack in the Box commercial where Jack sends a very mild-mannered guy out to Philly to do research on the PCSs and comes back as Mr. Philly wearing high-tops, high hair, and a Philly accent, going “Heyyyy Jackyyyyyy!”. No lie, that’s exactly how it was here too. Awesome. Then we went back downtown to where my hotel was (which was literally in the center of everything – very cool place to be if you have the opportunity to stay in Philly: Holiday Inn Historic District) and walked along South Street, which reminded me mostly of Melrose Avenue in LA. After that, we said our goodnights and I crashed.

The next morning, I woke up and it was freakin’ raining, which was not cool. But fortunately, that didn’t last all damn day and we then met up and started a full day of sightseeing. First we grabbed some breakfast at this high-falutin’ cafe where Jenny made some waiter drop his tray of cups and glasses. She really did. It was all her fault. After that we walked over to the damn Liberty Bell! How awesome was that? We then got our free timed tickets for the Independence Hall (in hindsight, not sure how worth it this was, but still, I can say I was where both the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed and adopted) which weren’t for a few hours so we then squeezed in a full circuit of the Big Bus Tour of Philadelphia (much like what there is in London and other big cities). As you’ll see in the pics, this was again a great way to get an idea of the entire city and if you have time, it allows you to plan out other things to see. I didn’t have that time this visit, but I definitely know I’d like to go back and see a lot more of Philadelphia.

It was also great just to see Jenny again! She is definitely one of those friends in which it seems like no time passes when you see them again after a long separation in between. Still as snarky as ever, and I think I’ve refreshed her ‘so to speak’ness so maybe it’ll catch on at her work. Here’s hoping. WTF Joe!!!????

Okay, I’m seriously tired now but it was all worth it! I had to get these pictures up now or I’d probably take forever to do so once work starts. It was definitely an amazing adventure driving across this country of ours – it was a part of it that I really wasn’t familiar with so it was cool to see a bunch of new stuff, even if it did all look the same after awhile – corn fields, corn fields, corn fields…. then trees trees trees…. finally Philly and Atlantic City and of course Manhattan and North Jersey broke all that monotony up!

Here’s hoping for a good first day tomorrow!

Drop Kicking Cancer (T-118)

Civilian Jenny was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma and so it is now time to drop kick this cancer out of her.

I’m not exactly sure if drop-kicking is an effective treatment endorsed by the American Cancer Society, but it’s what I want to do. I have been reading her blog and she is in amazing spirits and in a much better state of mind than I would be in. She’s definitely a fighter, and with a 95% success rate of treatment, I know she’ll be in that winning margin. It’s just shocking to have someone I know so well get diagnosed. So Jenny, just know that I as well as many others out here who you’ve made an impact on are pulling for you (so to speak!).

Take care, and let me know if there’s anything I can do. And you’ll need to fess up with details on this boyfriend you mention on your site. It’s not Jason, right??? 😉 LOL ZOMGI’MSOFUNNY. (that l33tspeak was totally for Jenny – you should read her blog – I swear she’s becoming a computer).
