11/22/63 Sticks the Landing & Other Stuff

Well hallelujah, the Hulu adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63, which I mentioned being excited for here, was fucking fantastic.  I admit that we didn’t watch it devotedly when it first premiered, but that meant we could binge on the first 5 episodes.  But we then had to wait patiently every Monday, which you know what?  I like having time to wait for the next episode – doing a Netflix binge certainly has an appeal, but you tend to forget details and just have more of an overall impression.  Shows like Orange is the New BlackDaredevil, Jessica Jones, and House of Cards are amazingly entertaining, but when hard pressed to really remember much of what happened in any of them….I can’t.  But shows you have to wait for, like Game of Thrones or any broadcast network show, you get to think about and ponder.

11-22-63-james-franco-image-slice-600x200ANYWAY….11/22/63 was amazing and tonight was the last episode of the 8-episode series.  I won’t spoil any of the plot for those who haven’t read the book, but there’s no surprise twist for a Season 2 (I’m looking at YOU, Under the Dome, which had such potential but blew that up by Episode 2 when it was clear this wasn’t a race against time and oh fuck you);  instead, this was a true mini-series and the story concludes and hits the same beats as the book did.  And man, it was great.  I admit to some tears being shed while watching as the performances really shined this last episode.  It wasn’t a perfect series, and some episodes were weak, and some characters (hello, Bill) that served a television purpose really felt like a misfire.  But hey, regardless of that, the end result was very entertaining.  And the Dallas shots at the Book Depository and outside it were fun to watch as hello, I was JUST THERE… in June.

In wedding preparation news, the main image above are our lantern centerpieces for the reception.  Creative and artistic efforts applied to IKEA lanterns yielded some pretty great results.  It’s hard to believe there’s less than 30 days to go!  This next weekend is our joint bachelor party with a fun group at the Abbey!!!  That’s gonna leave a mark.
