Continuing the Fun of my New Blog (MM)

NOTE FROM OCT 2011: Alright, so this is once again another transition.  In order to not lose my previous posts from the MobileMe site, which is eventually going away in 2012, as well as iWeb/MobileMe hosting, I’m going to transfer those posts manually now to here.

Previous Post entry:

Alright, it’s finally time for me to keep up with this blog.  It’s certainly a LOT more fun for me to do it while using the power of my new fangled MacBook Pro which I purchased to replace the laptop I got back in 2005.  It had served admirably for the last 4 years, but Hobie needs his new toys like a crackwhore needs her…well, crack.  She’s a crackwhore after all.

I’m experimenting with the true functionality that iWeb gives you, as it’s a very constricted way to run a page.  There’s no ‘HTML’ view to fine-tune or such, it’s just pretty pages to type in and then you press ‘Publish Site’.  I have to say, I can’t deny that makes things FAR easier and far less time consuming than it was before for me.  It was a prime reason why I ended up trying to use Livejournal to do my site, but that just never really caught on with me or others, I think.  A little obvs when you see that I haven’t update it all that often.  I guess I really missed having my individual touch on things.

NEWayz, I’ve got some new pics to share with you all.  You can find them by clicking on the menu bar at the top where it says ‘My Albums’ or some such thing. (September 2014 Note: No, not anymore.  I’ll just put them here for your enjoyment)  Trust me, you’ll find your way there and it’ll be awesome.  There’s an album containing the pics from the night out with all my work peeps at Knickerbocker and then there is also an album containing pics from when Jeff Crepeau came up this past weekend and visited.

He came up on Friday for some other stuff but then spent Saturday with me and Larry.  We ended up walking down to the aircraft carrier Intrepid and not only saw that awesome ship but also the Growler Submarine was open, which was freakin’ awesome.  The visit was very brief, but it is always fun to see Jeff.

We went to John’s of Bleeker for some classic Pizza in the Village for dinner, which was one of two places that his boss has mentioned he had to try.  The other place was Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn, which IS awesome.  It’s just a long time to get there plus you have to usually wait 30-45 minutes outside just to get in.  But the pizza is definitely worth it – you may remember my pics of it from about May of 2008 (!) on the blue version of my site.  The pizza here at John’s was good, no doubt, but I think Grimaldi’s still wins a taste test.

On the work front, I’m still at NBC Universal, or should I call it NBC Universal Comcast?  Who knows honestly, but hopefully our team is in a safe and good position if and when we get turned into our own company.  I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing if it happens, to be honest.  But what do I know?  Except how to rock Oracle Forms and Reports, a little bit of Java, and the application known as REACT that rules the NBC Universal media libraries!!!! World domination is soon to be mine!

Okay, enough for now.  Go check out the albums.  I’m sure they’ll just be ridiculously entertaining and you’ll be so thankful that I’m back!

Sooo….back to Hobiebarnes.com it is!

Livejournal got me through a period of life but…<sigh>, it’s time to move on.  It’s not you, it’s me.

I’m going to try to import all my posts from Livejournal slowly but surely back to the mothership at hobiebarnes.com.  If you still check this out, which I would be surprised if you do, head on back to the old site.  You’ll be surprised.

Peace out!

Going Home For Christmas

Made the reservations yesterday – I’m going to be home in LA for Christmas for the first time in a few years. Yay!!!!

It’ll be nice to be back. I know i’ll get to see Mom’s side of the family, but I’m hoping to shoot for seeing some of the Dad side too. I won’t be back too much time though, so I’m definitely going to have to hustle if I wanna try to accomplish all that.

Anyways! So here we are again. How are you? It’s been such a long time. What? I’m a lazy bastard? How dare you say that! I..I, I – well, I resemble that remark! Okay, so my during-the-week updates aren’t exactly something you can set your watch to. Most of the time not much goes on, and this week really didn’t change that too much! I did have a fun Wednesday evening and an awesome Saturday day and evening, so that makes for a good week in my book.

Yesterday I was with Eddie and we went to see Avenue Q – and let me tell you that is a ridiculously funny musical – think a foul-mouthed Sesame Street (include puppets in your thoughts, they’re the stars of the show) with catchy songs that are aimed at teaching adults a thing or two about growing up and living life. It’s awesome. When talking with Eddie and doing a comparison between Wicked and Avenue Q (which is the extent of my true Broadway knowledge), I think Wicked is the more ‘fantastic’ one and has amazing production values, but the songs as a whole are not all that memorable. Avenue Q on the other hand is hilarious and the songs are very much ones that get stuck in your head because they’re so well-done.

As many of you may already know because I sent you an email concerning it, I’ve converted (succumbed) to the iPhone. On Friday, after work, I took a stroll over to Best Buy because I had been going through withdrawals and had to get my fix…and then I realized, why deny myself an iPhone when it is so freakin’ awesome…. so off I went to the AT&T store. I didn’t go to the Apple Store because if you ever have been to one of these stores, you know how ridiculously crowded they can be – now muliply that by 10 and that’s how crowded the NYC ones are. At the AT&T store though, it was very mellow and you get tons of attention and help without a bajillion tourists cramming around you. I was done in 10 minutes or so, including the pre-approval credit check and everything – you’d think for all the money it costs you’d have to spend some more time jumping through hoops, but I guess it’s mainly because you do most of the ‘hard work’ at home when you connect the iPhone to your computer and iTunes. I had to make a decision though, and I decided not to keep my Vegas-based cell phone # anymore. I’ve been living with that for quite a few years now and it just was time to get a more local #. So there I am.

Anyways, this weekend was quite nice and today I got to just stay in, continue re-reading Wicked (I had forgotten how incredible a book it was as I hadn’t read it for Years!), and basically veg around the house. It was glorious. And now I think it’s time to eat some dinner and watch a DVD!
