Singing at/with Sheryl Crow

Larry & I went to the next show in our Hollywood Bowl season last night and it was great – Sheryl Crow!  I’ve been a fan since her album “Tuesday Night Music Club” came out back in the 90s (ah, the 90s), and have enjoyed her many albums since then.  I don’t know of any new album coming out so this seemed to be just a chance to perform for a big crowd and sing the hits, and that’s exactly what she did.  I was planning to revolt if she didn’t play “A Change Would Do You Good” as that is by far my favorite of her songs – and the revolt didn’t occur as she ended up seguing right into it as the second song of the night after starting off with “Maybe Angels.”

It was a really good concert and she’s still got the pipes and enthusiasm for it.  A random power outage at the Bowl right in the middle of “All I Wanna Do” stopped things for a little bit but once the power came back and all the systems were rebooted, she literally was just like, “let’s take it from ‘When the sun comes up over Santa Monica Blvd…'” and the concert picked right up.  It was a good show and another enjoyable night at the Hollywood Bowl.  Next up:  Heart!  But that’s not for a couple of weeks.

Here’s the setlist from the performance:

  • Maybe Angels
  • A Change Would Do You Good
  • Run, Baby, Run
  • Summer Day
  • My Favorite Mistake
  • Give it to Me
  • The First Cut is the Deepest
  • Leaving Las Vegas
  • Best of Times
  • Always on Your Side
  • Am I Getting Through, Parts I & II
  • Strong Enough
  • All I Wanna Do (before & after a power outage)
  • If It Makes You Happy
  • Encore: Soak Up the Sun
  • Encore: Everyday is a Winding Road
  • Encore 2:  I Shall Believe

Would it have killed her to sing “Tomorrow Never Dies” though?  She even had the Hollywood Bowl orchestra there!  It could’ve been epic!

Pre-Show

Opening Act:  Alex Cuba

The opening act was a fun Latin-flavored guitar player and singer named Alex Cuba.  Nothing earth-shattering but it was a pleasant way to get the night going.

Sheryl Crow

My new Nikon camera was a freakin’ champ and managed to take some fantastic close-ups from our seats.  I’m still thrilled that I made the switch.

Power Outage! + Encores

I know I’d never been at the Hollywood Bowl and had something like that happen – and happily, there was no mass panic.  People were a little surprised but then brought out their phones and bathed the venue in a little Edelweiss glow.  The power was only out for a minute or so, if that, and then it took maybe another 5 minutes or so before the systems were back up and ready for the concert to continue.  Everything went well and like I mentioned above, Sheryl Crow was pretty chill about it!
