I'm a REAL Captain now!

Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL: Sep 12 - Oct 15, 2004

I honestly couldn't tell you everything that happened while I was at SOS, writing about it now while it is Dec 20. But here are some things that stick out:

- Hurricane Ivan rolling through the gulf coast and waking up the base at 3am with tornado watches

- Being in a room and building separate from my flight

- F-61 gellin' like magellan. We all got along great and our mix of personalities was definitely a factor in us doing as well as we did.

- Studying at Barnes & Noble for the two tests. Near the end of the time there, I just didn't really care all that much, and that IS reflected in my test score for the second test. Oh well.

- Me stepping up and making sample test questions. How cool am I?

- Having the coolest intro ever for my job brief - I actually went first on my brief, so it was perfect, as the intro was that the slides went all crazy as if they had been hacked. Every one in the class completely bought that the presentation was jacked because I totally sold them my fear. It was awesome.

- Trying to get through my China brief, again first, and forgetting to cite sources verbally at the beginning, and trying to interpret all the Charades going on in the audience. D'oh!

- Writing that damn ISS paper yet having fun while doing the research when I got to DJ for it. Good times. Although perhaps not as conducive to good paper writing as silence or Mozart. Whatever.

- Starting off doing somewhat poorly on the 3-mile warrior run (I needed a 28:00 time and my first initial attempt was 29:30 - ouch), but with 3 weeks of constant training and practice, getting my time down to 25:08. For me, that kicked ass.

- Roof-stomping our flight CC, Ron, and him as well as 5 or so others, getting thrown in his pool.

- Me balancing like a Cirque du Soleil performer while on a little pole in the Shaft course during the Project X.

- Flickerball. 1st game a disaster, but the last two: VICTORIES

- The nightmare journey home that turned into surreal life: a stretch Hummer ride from Montgomery to Atlanta in order to get passengers to Atlanta in time to make connecting flights because flights just weren't leaving Montgomery.

- There's lots more, like the dinners at TGIF, getting utterly trashed at the O'Club when the LtCol-Selects put $15000 on the bar tab, games at the Fox and the Hound, and just overall having a blast with great people in an awesome flight. How did we do? 3rd place out of 30 at the end. We might have had the possibility of getting 1st, but woulda coulda shoulda will kill you everytime. I'll take 3rd place any day though!

Ranked #3 out of 30, thank you very much!

View of Vegas on the way out

There's me in my nice room, 2265, Bldg 681

Ivan tore through and made the base all damp

Exciting pic, eh?

F-61 got together at Ron's house

Chris is having a bit more fun with that than he should

James and Jenn chill

Finally, Jason is having fun

Is it fun when violence is involved?

Everyone is still trying to be polite

Polite Stage!

Still being polite

Keesha chills

Pat makes the catch!

And we're still chilling

Enough of this nonsense!

These are the fundamentals of an SOS existence

Drinking it up at a TGIF one Friday night

Having fun at Fox & the Hound pub!

Keith and Josh await their destruction by Pat at the pool table

Pat was the Terminator, even to Leroy

Pics from my walking tour of Maxwell - here, we have a B-25

The B-52 static dispay

That's the Maxwell tarmac, plus Bldg 681

That's the exterior of the infamous Polifka, aka the Blue Bedroom

An F-4 Phantom

Me in the blade's reflection

Poopsie is pissed

The Hero statue

The walk-home view, except with no cars in the parking lot

A Wright Flyer replication

Could it be....?

A perspective pic of the Flyer and the War Library

F-61 earned top flight of the squadron (Tiger Lead)

Our ranking (#5) during Week 2

Roofstomp time! Jason scales up to the roof

Is it time to stomp?

The door's open, let's drink!

Drink time! Thanks Ron and Kelli!

Keesha and Jeff are a tad more refined...

Leroy and Josh in the calm before the storm

Keesha liked the castle motif - Ron made this himself!

Castle motif is pretty darned cool

Oh, it looks like Ron wanted to go to the pool

Yep, he did

The zoomed out version of the last pic

I think some payback was wanted

And there it was, even with the troublemaker herself!

The wet ones swim their way out

Poor poor Zoltan, blood makes him woozy

Angel, Josh, Keesha & Keith: Ready for our 2nd Flickerball game

Warming up

And the jump shot starts the game!

Keesha was the Tiger that day!

More Tiger action!

All that running sure does look tiring!

Don't think I'd want to wear that costume

Definitely not

A victorious F-61? Yes! Our first flickerball win

Somehow, Leroy got caged up. Don't ask me how.

Pat was bet he couldn't eat a sausage mcmuffin all at once

He accepted that bet

It wasn't pretty

But Pat indeed won that bet

Flickerball....the final round

Jenn was the TigerOTD

Yeah, no thanks to all that unnecessary running

Nope

F-60 was our sister flight

A victorious beer for Jef and Tod in honor of our 2nd win!

James and Angel celebrate

Once more

Zoltan and Keesha are thrilled too

Leroy, Josh, coach Jason, and Chris

Our standings at the end: 3rd place

The last Wednesday night was a long one

First we gave Jenn her class award from F-61

There's the stellar do-gooder

Josh wanted to throw her in the pool

Leroy and his crazy straw

Jenn didn't want the pool

Yet they still tried, unsuccessfully

Kelli & Ron (he went out with us that night)

Jenn getting some recognition for Acing the 2nd Academic test

Dinner at the Roadhouse - we were loud apparently

Hey, I'm in a picture finally!

Chris and his martini

One of our last toasts

F-61 in the back row. Why's everyone gotta hate?

Polifka that one last time for graduation

Jenn getting the Clebe McClary award for teamwork - go Jenn!

Our last formal picture as a flight! <sniff, sniff>

Jason and the ultimate way to get to Atlanta Intl

Look at how huge this vehicle is!
