Part 2 of the Automotive Journey on the Alaskan Highway

Jason and I finally made it to the end: Anchorage, Alaska!

An awesome journey finally came to an end as Jason and I made it the last 350 miles from Tok to Anchorage. It was an amazingly beautiful drive there, with awesome rivers, majestic mountains, and even a glacier or two off the side of the road. Sweet. After we got to Anchorage late the afternoon of the 13th, Jason and I got settled into Elmendorf AFB, where he is now stationed. After moving in a little bit, we then went out to the city to enjoy a relaxing evening. We went and saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and the surprising part was that the show ended around 10:30 and as we left the movie theatre's immediate Exit, the sun shown brightly in. Yes, at 10:30, it was brightly sunny like it was 4:30pm anywhere else. Very odd. It becomes very easy to see how in the summer in Alaska, you can spend all day doing things because it just doesn't feel like it's getting late. After the movie, we went to the Snowgoose Bar and Grill, which has possibly the best view of an Anchorage sunset as anywhere there. IT's a three-level bar, and you can see pictures below that show the dramatic sunset we saw. The next couple of days were spent just hanging out, enjoying some of the fun places that Anchorage has to offer, seeing movies, spending time at Barnes and Noble, getting Jason's house finalized (what a long story there), and just basically having a fun time. It was an awesome trip, and I really didn't want to go home, but hey, I had to eventually. I knew Jason was there safely and that he was ready to start his life up in Alaska. I was bummed to find out that I wasn't getting stationed up there, but Colorado isn't a bad second choice. I know Jason will have a great career and time up there, and I can't wait to go back and visit in the winter. It will be interesting to visit when it's the polar opposite of how it is in the summer. And that, loyal website-viewers, is the end of this journey. We'll have to see what happens next in the Journeys o' Hobie.
