Quest for Dice - Part 7: Finding Dice Wherever I Can

19 Sep 05: So in addition to finding dice at casinos, which is not exactly as easy as I had hoped, you have to be on the lookout for dice wherever you may be able to find them. The McCarran airport turns out to be a great place to look for them, as there is a gaming store that has a giant bucket full of dice. They typically have the lesser know casinos, or ones that are located out of town (Laughlin and Reno, for example), but it's still a place to get dice I didn't have before. A surprise find there was dice from Wynn Las Vegas though, and I also found the Aladdin dice there. As I have more and more dice, I'm realizing I still don't exactly know what I'm going to do with them. Suggestions? Before I go, the dicecoach dice are from when I took my fun class with a guy on how to dice set.

Quest for Dice - Part 6: Back on the Strip

19 Sep 05: Not really sure when it was that me and Dave made it back to the actual strip (sometime in late August), but we ended up parking at the Las Vegas Hilton, taking the Monorail to Harrah's, and then walking a helluva long way around that mid-part of the Strip, walking up the Strip to Wynn, then heading back down. Stopped by a ton of casinos and the Forum Shops in Caesars, which I hadn't seen since they've been remodeled. How cool it is now! Curving escalators rock. Anyways, just picked up a few sets of dice, as not everyone had them still, including the following:
- Wynn Las Vegas
- Venetian
- Casino Royale
- Harrahs

Quest for Dice - Part 5: Get 'Em When I Can, Episode 2

8 Aug 05: So like I was totally at a loss for what to do this past Sunday. I had just woken up around noon after participating in Airmen Against Drunk Driving. I didn't want to just hang out at home, so I decided, What the Hell, let's get out for a drive. And yes, that's what we did, my precious.... Anyways, I focused my efforts on the non-strip casinos, so as you'll see below, there's a healthy collection of dice from Station casinos. I also didn't want to go to the real fun off-strip casinos just yet (Palms & Rio, for example) without Dave as I know he'd want to go to those. So, these are the ones I made it to yesterday! Good times, and I even finally made it out to Lake Las Vegas. Now that's some hoity-toity shit there, let me tell you. Some fancy hotels there! The only strike-outs I had are listed below:
- Green Valley Ranch Station
- Fiesta (Decatur)

Quest for Dice - Part 4: Get 'Em When I Can, Episode 1

30 Jul 05: I've decided to pick up dice whenever I can, and today was following that rule as I was at Suncoast Hotel & Casino with the Schofields watching 'Wedding Crashers'. (Hilarious movie, BTW) I think I'm getting a knack for finding gift shops in a casino. Both Dave and I soon realized even back in our South Strip adventure that gift shops are almost always located right near the Registration Desk. Not always, but most times. Suncoast almost was like that, but as I was heading for Registration, I happened to glance directly opposite it and sure enough saw the sign. And BAM!, I went to the shop, saw the bucket o' dice, and another set added to the collection. Hopefully we'll be making another excursion to the Strip soon, whether it be to continue north from O'Sheas or to revisit the diceless casinos.

Quest for Dice - Part 3: Travels o' Dave Fox

While Dave was in the process of moving his family from California to Arizona to Nevada, he had the chance to visit the Las Vegas Intl Airport and Laughlin, Nevada. While in Laughlin, he considerately picked up dice from the Colorado Belle, Fiesta, and Riverside casinos. These Laughlin dice are pure bonus, because I honestly don't really want to go back there. Once or twice is quite enough. At the airport he found dice from the Casuaraina Hotel (formerly the Maxim Hotel on Flamingo right off strip) and the Rampart Hotel (an off-Strip casino in Summerlin). Sweet! Thanks Dave!

Quest for Dice - Part 2: Downtown Vegas

One can only take so much of the Strip at a time. So, we decided our next stop would be Downtown Las Vegas, home of the Fremont Street Experience and lots of people who can't afford to stay down on the Strip (or choose not to). Anyways, what made this trip for us so great is that all the casinos are located right next to each other meaning minimal walking time. Even better, almost all the casinos we went to had dice for sale. You'll probably notice some Downtown casinos not represented below. Well, those are the ones that aren't right on the Fremont Street Experience area. Hence, there are some that still need to be visited, including:
- California Hotel
- El Cortez
- Lady Luck
- Main Street Station
- Nevada Hotel

I don't consider the above 'failures' though, as I didn't go to them. But I will make that visit before departing Vegas for good, believe you me!

Quest for Dice - Part 1: South Side of the Strip

So Dave Fox and I decided it would be cool to put into motion one of my projects: Collecting Dice from Every Casino in Vegas. Sounds easy, doesn't it? I mean, yes, there is the whole time factor involved in actually GOING to every casino in Las Vegas, but it would be fun and would allow me to say I've been to every casino in the city. So we started with the Las Vegas Strip's Southern End, figuring we'd just work our way up. We did know enough to realize we weren't going to be able to hit every casino in one day, as hell, that's a lot of distance. What I didn't expect is that that it was going to be so damn hard to actually find Casino Gift Shops, let alone casinos that sell their craps dice. Below are the dice we could find on the Strip, from O'Sheas and locations south. As you can see, there aren't that many dice below, and there ARE more casinos than this south of O'Sheas. You can see the dice we managed to get.
The casinos with no dice were:
- Excalibur
- New York, New York
- Tropicana
- The Boardwalk
- Aladdin
- Paris Las Vegas
- Bellagio (
couldn't even find the gift shop here)
- Caesar's Palace
- Flamingo
- O'Sheas

So as you can see, we struck out on a BUNCH of casinos. Some stores said that they were just out. Which means I still have to go back. <sigh> Oh, if any of you happen to find some before I do, let me know and I'll gladly relieve your burden of having them. :-)

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

These were the first dice I ever picked up - the Boulder Station dice were the first I bought, while on a trip to gamble with Marian. The Mirage dice I picked up one time while gambling with Mary & JC.
